Protecting Oregon’s History, One Tree at a Time
Not every day brings the chance to help save a nearly 500-year-old Douglas-fir. When the historic Doerner Fir began burning from within, and with traditional firefighting methods unable to reach the flames some 280 feet up, Arbor Care Tree Specialists’ founder Luke Colvin spear-headed the firefighting response, coordinating efforts on the ground. Two of Luke’s friends, both experienced arborists as well, volunteered to scale the giant, remove embers by hand, and install a custom sprinkler system that ultimately saved the tree, preserving a 450-year-old icon of the Oregon coast.
